How to convert JPG to PNG online

Updated

A JPG (or JPEG) is a compressed photo format. A PNG is a different image format that stores pixels without JPEG compression and can keep a transparent background when the source has one. Converting JPG to PNG does not invent detail the JPEG already discarded. It wraps the same picture in a PNG file that more design tools accept. JPG to PNG does that conversion on MyConvert.

What changes, and what does not

The width and height stay the same. The file may get larger, because PNG does not use JPEG's lossy compression. A photo that was already soft or blocky stays that way. The tool is a format change, not an upscaler and not a background remover.

MyConvert rejects files whose bytes do not match an image, including programs renamed to end in `.jpg`. Empty files are rejected too.

Steps

  1. Open JPG to PNG.
  2. Drop one JPEG, or choose it from your device.
  3. Download the PNG when the status line says the job is ready.

Guests can upload up to 25 MB. Members can upload up to 100 MB. A guest download remains for 30 minutes, then the file is deleted. Signed-in results are kept for 24 hours. There is no install and no paid plan.

Limits worth knowing before you start

Very large pixel dimensions can fail with an image-too-large error even when the file size is under the upload cap. Convert one image at a time on this tool. If you need a smaller PDF rather than a PNG, use Compress PDF. If you need several PDFs joined, use Merge PDF.

Questions about a failed job go to support with the reference shown on the page. That form stores a message. It does not upload the image again.
