How to compress a PDF online

Updated

Compressing a PDF rewrites the document so the download is smaller. The usual savings come from images inside the PDF, not from the text. A file that is already mostly text may barely shrink. A scanned packet or a slide export often shrinks more. Compress PDF runs that job on MyConvert without a desktop app.

Before you upload

  • Use a PDF you can open. Password-protected files are not supported.
  • Stay under the size cap: 25 MB for a guest, 100 MB for a signed-in member.
  • Expect the result to stay a PDF. Compression does not turn the file into images. PDF to JPG is the tool for that, and Merge PDF is the tool when the problem is several files rather than one large file.

Guest results are deleted 30 minutes after the job finishes. Member results are kept for 24 hours. MyConvert is not an archive.

Steps

  1. Open Compress PDF.
  2. Add the PDF.
  3. Download the smaller file when the job succeeds, and check a page that contains a photo. Compression can soften images.

The work happens on the server over HTTPS. An essential cookie ties the download to this browser. Ads, when enabled, do not cover the download button, and ad scripts wait for consent.

If the file is still too large

Try the compressed file again only if you accept another loss of image detail. Splitting a long PDF with Split PDF is the better next step when a recipient's limit is about page count or when you can send chapters separately.

A failed job shows a reason and a support reference. Use support for a product problem, abuse for illegal content, and DMCA for a copyright notice. Do not send the original file through those forms.
